Literally translate as
"Beckoning Cat," Maneki Neko are usually moving one paw. If the cat figure is raised the left paw it means that is trying to attract more clients, on the other hand if it is the right paw, it means that is attracting money, although some believe the opposite.
Maneki Neko usually have some sort of decoration around their neck. This can be a neckerchief or a scarf but the most common attire is a collar, bell and decorative bib. And sometimes depicted holding a coin; usually a gold coin called a koban (小判).
There are many types of Maneki Nekos, and you can have fun finding differences between them.
